Anya has the Eggs Factor in Birmingham

Eight year old Anya Teague from Staunton and Corse Church of England Primary School in Gloucestershire proved fairytales really do come true when she was crowned winner of the West Midlands Eggs Factor cook-off with a recipe deigned for Snow White.

As well as a place in the national final, Anya received the Eggs Factor trophy and a Nintendo DSi console along with a Cooking guide: Can’t decide what to eat game. All contestants won £100 for their school, £20 worth of Waterstone’s vouchers, and a goody bag including an apron and cookery book.

Budding egg chefs from primary schools across the region battled it out in the Eggs Factor regional cook-off held at Birmingham’s Heartlands High School, with local chef Steve Love on hand to help judge the finalists on recipes of their own design, made for famous people and characters, including a ‘Treggy Chest’ for Captain Hook and ‘Purple Hand Gang’s Pancakes’ for Horrid Henry.

The competition to find chefs of the future received hundreds of entries which were narrowed down to a handful of finalists in each of 10 cook-offs taking place in school kitchens throughout June.

Anya will now compete against regional winners from all over the UK in the Eggs Factor final, being held at L’atelier des Chefs in central London on 6 July. Children’s food eggspert Annabel Karmel will judge the final, to be hosted by X Factor finalists Same Difference.

The national Eggs Factor champion will win a special culinary weekend in London, including an afternoon at the research kitchen where Annabel Karmel develops her recipes. The winning recipe will also be published in one of Karmel’s forthcoming cookbooks.
