Ways to poach an egg

Poached eggs are undoubtedly the most technically difficult style of eggs to cook, but luckily for those of us who are not master egg chefs there is help at hand. We’re going to take a look at different ways you can poach an egg, from beginner, all the way to advanced!

Electronic poacher

It doesn’t get any easier than this; you can actually buy electronic poaching kits which do all the hard work for you! All you do is crack the eggs into the attachments, set the timer and wait till your eggs are cooked to your liking!

Poaching an egg

This is still a very simple way of poaching your eggs; all that’s required is an attachment that fits on to the top of a frying pan. Simply fill the frying pan with the required amount of water, place the attachment on the pan, crack the eggs into the slots, cover and cook for the required amount of time! It may be a good idea to use a timer so that you cook the eggs to the preferred consistency (soft or hard).

(Tip: Make sure you check that the size of your frying pan is the same as the poaching kit you buy!)

Silicon poacher

Another fairly easy way to make poached eggs is to use silicon poachers. They float on top of the simmering water and come with a scoop to remove from the water once the eggs are cooked. You’ll want to use a tiny bit of oil to coat the inside of each of the silicon cups to make sure that the egg doesn’t stick.

Remember that you need to make sure the water is simmering and not boiling and that you cover the saucepan so that the eggs cook evenly. Again, use a timer to get eggs cooked to the desired consistency.

Saucepan

This can be the trickiest of the ways to poach an egg due to the minimal room for error. All you need for this method is a saucepan and some good egg poaching skills!
